Mayor's Speech at the 2022 Multicultural Fair

Below is the text of Mayor Peter J. Malouf's speech at the 2022 Multicultural Fair held on September 24 at Connaught Park. Please note that the text has been adapted for the Web.

"Dear Friends good afternoon and welcome to Everyone.

It is a great pleasure to be with you today to celebrate Ukraine and of course its People. This year we have heard a lot about this country for the reasons you know.

I am sincerely moved that today this country is again at the heart of our discussions, but this time on a more positive note. It is an opportunity to learn more about the culture of Ukrainians: their history, the traditional music of this country and the typical food.

The mix of cultures is certainly a richness that our community and one of the greatest assets of Town of Mount Royal benefits from. Our Multicultural Fair is an opportunity to celebrate the different cultures in our community that we love so much.

I would like to acknowledge the presence of the following people:

  • Anthony Housefather -  Member of Parliament for Mount Royal
  • Pierre Arcand, who is leaving his position as a member of the Quebec National Assembly after 15 years of public service. Thank you for your good work and years of public service to our community.

Greetings to all the candidates present with us today who are running in the October 3rd election to represent Mount Royal-Outremont. We are counting on you to represent the interests of all residents of Mount Royal at the Quebec National Assembly:

  • Sabrina Ait Akil (PC)
  • Ophilie Bastien (PQ)
  • Sarah Beaumier (CAQ)
  • Chaya Anne Goldberg(PaCQ)
  • Malik Guelmi (PVQ)
  • Isabelle Leblanc (QS)
  • Michelle Setlakwe (PLQ)
  • Matthew Kerr (BMtl)

Town Council Members of and I are delighted to have you here at Connaught Park. We would like to thank you and all the people, volunteers, cooks, artists and artisans and Town’s employees who contributed in any way to the organization of this event, which is back after a two-year absence.

Perhaps a little history about how this Foire Multicultural came about. During her mandate as Mayor in 2002 Suzanne Caron initiated a Fall fair to bring the community together during the change of seasons, following this Mayor Vera Danyluk felt we should also celebrate the multicultural of dynamic of our community and has solicited support from several resident and volunteers.

I would like to also acknowledge the presence of Michel Faure who was instrumental during that period in working with Mayor Danyluk, in volunteering to coordinating the transition to this wonderful celebration of multiculturalism.

We wish you all a good day! Let’s have some fun and celebrate Ukraine Together!!

Thank you! "
