Alternative Transportation Methods for an Eco-Friendly Mobility.
Future REM trains, buses, car-sharing, bikes, BIXI, and walking: there are many options for swapping your car for a more ecological and economical means of transportation.
Fewer cars on our streets also means safer neighbourhoods for our children and less atmospheric pollution. Whether it's with the future REM, the metro and buses, Town of Mount Royal is fortunate to be served by a large public transit network that lets you travel throughout the metropolitan area without a car.
Do you work in downtown Montreal? With the opening of the REM in 2024, you'll be able to reach the Central Station in a few minutes. The metro is another interesting option, with De la Savane station, located on the orange Line, giving you direct access to the city centre.
Are you a student? Acadie metro station, on the blue line, connects you quickly to the Université de Montréal campus. An express bus service to Concordia University is also available from the terminus in Connaught Park.
The addition of bicycle lanes is a great way to get around by bike or by BIXI. Since 2023, the BIXI system has had six stations throughout the town. The BIXI system is modular, wireless and solar-powered.
The stations are located at the :
Two other BIXI stations are also located near TMR:
Whether by carpooling or car sharing, you save on fuel and do the environment a favour. It’s a win-win situation!
Several public charging stations for electric and hybrid vehicles, part of the Circuit Électrique network, are deployed to serve electromobilists on the territory of Town of Mount Royal.
The addition of public charging stations is in line with the objectives and orientations contained in the Town's 2021-2025 Local Sustainable Development Plan, in which the municipality is committed to improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gases, in particular by encouraging the electrification of transportation.
Two 240-volt municipal charging stations are located in the parking lot between the arena and the municipal outdoor pool on Dunkirk Road, and two others on Dunbar Avenue, near the Public Works workshops.
Other public charging stations have also been installed elsewhere in the municipality.
Consult the Circuit électrique interactive map to find the location and availability of charging stations in Mount Royal.
We often let out vehicle idle without really thinking about it. Meanwhile, the engine is burning a lot of fuel, diminishing the air quality and putting the health of citizens at risk.
To help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, By-law No. 1407 concerning idling control, which has been in effect since April 27, 2006, restricts the time an engine can idle on Town territory.
When near schools and daycare centres, be sure not to idle!
