REMINDER: Complete Closure of the Russell and Montgomery Footbridges for Construction Work

Following an agreement reached with the Town of Mount Royal, REM Project will carry out repair and modernization work on the Montgomery and Russell footbridges. As such, both will be dismantled and rebuilt, and will therefore be inaccessible for the duration of the work. Mobilization of the worksite by REM Project’s contractor will begin during the week of February 17.

Work will take place in parallel, on the following dates:

Montgomery footbridge: Closed from February 24 to the end of July;
Russell footbridge: Closed from March 5 to the end of July.

Disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the Montgomery footbridge worksite, such as:

  • Noise, vibrations, dust and truck traffic could occur.
  • The addition of flagmen and appropriate signage to redirect vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
  • The presence of environmental experts to ensure environmental monitoring during the work.
  • The implementation of appropriate mitigation measures where necessary.
  • Russell footbridge: Closure of both lanes on Canora Road between Russell Avenue and Surrey Road.
  • Montgomery footbridge: Closure of the intersection of Dunkirk Road and Montgomery Avenue.

We are well aware of the inconvenience this will cause to schoolchildren and other pedestrians who are accustomed to using the footbridges to cross the tracks. Since the pedestrian bridges will no longer be accessible, everyone will have to converge on the downtown area to cross, using the sidewalks on the Cornwall or Laird bridges. Public Security officers will be on hand in the downtown area at the start of the work to ensure safe pedestrian crossing and facilitate traffic flow.

Info-works signs were also posted close to the footbridges to inform residents in advance of the closure of the footbridges.

We understand that this work may cause some inconvenience for you, so please be assured that we will communicate any changes and progress related to this work. Important construction updates will be announced on the Town’s website at www.town.mount-royal.qc.ca.

You can contact the REM at: construction@rem.info if you have questions or comments regarding this project.
