Call for applications - CITIZENS interested in taking part in the Committee on Sustainable Development and Climate Change

The Town of Mount Royal invites citizens who are interested in environmental issues to apply to be volunteer members for the Committee on Sustainable Development and Climate Change. 

This newly created committee will consist of four elected representatives, eight Mount Royal citizens appointed by resolution (one representative per district), as well as members of the Town’s administration depending on the subject matter discussed.

 Please note that the Mayor and the Town manager are ex officio committee members.

The Committee’s mandate is to:

  • Propose measures to address climate change;
  • Review and propose ideas for updating the 2021-2025 sustainable development plan;
  • Provide guidance on environmental issues such as waste management, environmental pollution and greenhouse gases, the protection of trees, etc.;
  • Any other matters that the Council may put forward to the Committee.

The committee will submit its recommendations and reports to the Town.

Term: The term length for members is one year.

Meeting Schedule: 

The Committee will meet as required, according to a schedule established by the members. However, a minimum of three meetings in the evenings, of approximately three hours each, are scheduled throughout the term. Committee members will not be paid for their attendance at meetings or for their work.

Ideal candidates:

The Town is looking for eight citizens (one representative per **district) who live in Mount Royal and represent the Mount Royal community.

Citizens will be selected based on the following criteria:

• Strong interest in sustainable development and climate change;

• Availability for evening meetings;

• Ability and willingness to work as part of a team and serve the community.

If interested, citizens must send their resume and a covering letter outlining why they are interested in being on the committee by noon on Friday, January 24, 2025. Please submit documents in person, by email or by regular mail to the following address:

The Mount Royal Town Council plans to appoint members from selected applications at its meeting on February 18, 2025.
