Smoke Alarm Test Day on Saturday, September 28, 2024

Source: Ministère de la Sécurité publique

This provincial and pan-Canadian prevention initiative aims to encourage citizens to check their smoke alarms on September 28.

Smoke alarms save lives, including yours, your family's, your neighbors' and your pets'.

Take a few seconds over the next few days to check that your smoke alarms are working, and do it again every month for the safety of you and your loved ones.

WHY PARTICIPATE IN THE EVENT?

In the event of a fire, you only have 3 minutes to evacuate a burning house. Yet Quebec fire statistics for 2021 and 2022 reveal that many Quebecers still don't have smoke alarms, or they're not in working order.

  • More than 31% of residential buildings damaged by fire in Quebec had no smoke alarms, or alarms that were not in working order;
  • On average, 34 people lose their lives every year in a building fire;
  • More than 13 homes are damaged by fire every day.
